54-HOUR ONLINE SOMATIC IFS TRAINING

WITH SUSAN MCCONNELL AND ASSISTANT TRAINERS,
MARCELLA COX AND LADONNA SILVA

Dates: November, 2026 - January 2027
Location:  Online

Description

This Step 2, 54-hour Somatic IFS Online Training will build on your immersion into the practices of Somatic IFS that you experienced in the Step 1, 30-Hr Somatic IFS retreat. Each weekly session of this clinical training will focus on the integration and application of the somatic practices of awareness, breath, resonance, movement, and touch with the IFS Model of psychotherapy.

Demonstrations, instruction, and supervision in the clinical application of somatic practices, reading materials, didactic presentations, and large and small group discussions, will provide specific practical interventions to access, witness, and unburden your client’s parts to facilitate the state of Embodied Self.

This Step 2, 54-hour Somatic IFS Online Training is open to those who have completed at least an IFS Level 1 Training as well as a Step 1, 30-hour Somatic IFS Retreat or Online Series. This training is limited to a maximum of 36 participants.

20 IFS-CE credits are available for IFS certification or recertification

54 CE credits are available for Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Social Workers, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists and are offered by CCIH, a licensed CEU provider in the state of Illinois. Many states will accept CEs for license renewal if that workshop has approved status from another state. Please check your specific state rules & regulations.

A little about Susan....

Susan McConnell, MA, CIFST, CHT, is the creator and founder of Somatic Internal Family Systems (SIFS) and a Senior Lead Trainer for the IFS Institute. She was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her teaching, mentorship of other trainers, and development of curriculum for IFS Training programs. A pioneer in integrating somatic awareness with the evidence-based IFS model, Susan has been teaching Internal Family Systems throughout the United States and internationally since 1997.

She is the author of Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy: Awareness, Breath, Resonance, Movement and Touch in Practice, published by North Atlantic Books, as well as the companion Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy Workbook – Embodied Healing Practices to Transform Trauma. Translated into eight languages, these books have become essential resources for clinicians and practitioners seeking to deepen their Somatic IFS work through embodied, experiential practice.

Somatic IFS represents the culmination of Susan’s five decades of study and practice in bodywork, movement, spiritual traditions, and body psychotherapy. Her approach demonstrates how a deeper embodiment of our internal family—our sub-personalities and our essential Core Self—supports compassionate witnessing of the implicit body stories that arise from individual wounds and collective burdens. Case studies and clinical vignettes throughout her work highlight the profound efficacy of Somatic IFS in addressing a wide range of therapeutic issues.

Susan leads Somatic IFS retreats, and trainings to IFS therapists and practitioners and provides mentorship for the Somatic IFS teaching staff.  When she is not teaching, she enjoys time with her family and friends along the shores of Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes, where rest, nature, and play nourish her ongoing dedication to healing and embodiment.

Friday's Supervised Practice Groups (SPG's) will be led online by experienced Somatic IFS Staff and may also be assisted by mentees. During the Supervised Practice Groups, participants will each get to experience the roles of therapist, client, and observer. Both Whole Group Sessions AND SPG Sessions will be recorded. The Whole Group Sessions and accompanying Demo's will be available for a limited time period for participants to re-watch each week. As highlighted in the program, in addition to the live training hours, participants will be required to view a total of 15 hours of pre-taped instruction on the practices of Somatic IFS and will engage in discussion of their learnings.

Required reading—

Prior to this training, we recommend you read Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy: Awareness, Breath, Resonance, Movement, and Touch in Practice by Susan McConnell. You may also prefer to listen to it on Susan’s audio book version.

It may also support your learning to spend some time practicing the techniques you’ll be exploring. Susan’s The Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy Workbook offers guided, embodied exercises that many participants find helpful to experiment with before deepening into the material.
