PREDICTIVE MINDS: SUPPORTING AUTISTIC SYSTEMS WITH IFS
A 2-DAY WORKSHOP WITH
SARAH BERGENFIELD

A Little About Sarah

She is an autistic, a wife, and a mother to three humans and Magnus the Springer Spaniel. She is a Certified Level 3 IFS Practitioner and she holds a Masters Degree in Embodiment Studies from Goddard College and wrote her thesis on autism as an embodied condition. Her thesis is the foundation for her upcoming book -  Wired to Feel: Autism as a Condition of Sensory Surplus, which is co-written with Martha Sweezy, and will be published in April 2026.

Her professional journey has been an unusual one. She spent the last 15 years supporting clients and helping them reach an understanding that their experiences, whether they are emotional, physical, or spiritual, are all part of who they are. She is a certified Pilates instructor and spent 10 years using movement to help clients recover from illness and injury.  This was a profoundly empowering experience that introduced her to the idea that our bodies store all our emotions. She then became a volunteer working with undocumented children from Central America, many of whom had suffered abuse. Her experiences with these children introduced her to the psychological world of trauma and therapy, and the value of being witnessed. She became a rape crisis counselor for RAINN, the national hotline, listening to and supporting callers who had experienced sexual violence. These experiences all led her to where she is now – working in private practice as a Certified Internal Family Systems practitioner.

IFS is a somatic psychotherapeutic model that encourages clients to notice their emotions rather than change them. She specialises in using the IFS model with autistic clients and she presented on this topic at the Internal Family Systems Annual Conference for the last few years. She is a writer and researcher with a mission  to change the narrative around autism. She continues her work supporting clients to help deepen their understanding of how their autism impacts their lives.

What to expect from the Workshop

Learning Objectives....

This 2-day IFS workshop is for IFS trained and/or informed therapists and practitioners who work with neurodivergent clients or who want to learn more about their own autistic systems. Our online workshop will allow you to build connection, both within your own systems using the IFS model, and to the greater autistic community.

We will explore neuroscience to reframe autism as a condition of surplus. We will use tools from polyvagal theory to attend to your nervous system and build a sensory profile to help understand the effects of the world around you.

Using the IFS model, we will explore the parts that have had to work so hard in order to survive in a world that doesn’t always make sense. We will build and hold a loving space within which we can release the burdens that have impacted the neurodivergent community for so many generations.

You do not need to have a formal diagnosis to attend. This two-day online workshop for IFS-informed participants is a rare opportunity to demystify Autism and explore it's many facets with Sarah who is an expert on this topic.

Please note: This workshop is limited to 40 participants and is open to IFS-informed professionals only.

What we will explore together

Together, we’ll explore the many layers of neurodivergence—from early curiosity and self-inquiry, through the processes of recognition, diagnosis, and self-acceptance.

Together, we will...

  • Explore the neuroscience of neurodivergence, reframing old narratives and embracing the richness of diverse neural wiring.

  • Use tools from polyvagal theory to attend to the nervous system, mapping your own sensory profile to better understand how the world impacts you.

  • Apply the IFS model to meet and unburden the parts that have worked tirelessly to adapt and survive in a world that often misunderstands them.

  • Create a loving and accepting space to release intergenerational burdens carried by the neurodivergent community.

  • Engage in IFS-based meditations to foster inner connection and grounding.

  • Participate in gentle experiential exercises that deepen self-awareness and embodied understanding.

  • Join in curious discussion and shared reflection within a compassionate and affirming group field.

  • Take time for personal self-reflection and integration, including journaling.

  • Experiment with new ways of being and communicating that honour neurodivergent systems and relational needs.

  • Celebrate laughter and lightness, remembering that learning can be joyful, playful, and freeing.

This workshop is open to anyone who is IFS-informed, whether or not you have a formal diagnosis of autism or another form of neurodivergence. What matters most is a genuine curiosity and commitment to understanding and working with neurodivergent experiences.
